Frequently Asked Questions
-
Each party pays for their own intake session. The cost of joint mediation is then shared equally between the parties, unless you both agree on a different arrangement.
-
If mediation is assessed as unsuitable, or if one party chooses not to proceed, you will receive a Section 60I Certificate (if applicable). This certificate allows you to file an application with the Family Court.
-
Most mediations are completed in a half-day (up to 3 hours). More complex matters, or those that involve both parenting arrangements & property settlements, usually require a full-day session. Additional time can be arranged if needed.
-
The intake session is a private one-on-one meeting with the mediator. It allows us to:
Understand your situation and concerns
Assess whether mediation is suitable and safe
Explain how the process works
Answer your questions
Everything you share in intake is confidential.

If you can’t resolve all issues, you may still reach partial agreements (for example, parenting but not property). These agreements can be written into a Parenting Plan or Heads of Agreement, and you can take any unresolved issues to court if necessary.
-
Parenting Plans are not legally binding but can be filed with the Court later as Consent Orders
Property/Financial Agreements can be converted into Consent Orders or Binding Financial Agreements if you wish.
We’ll provide clear information about your options, but we don’t give legal advice - you may wish to seek independent advice alongside mediation.
-
Yes. Online mediation offers flexibility, reduces stress, and allows you to participate from the comfort of your own home. Many clients find it less confronting than sitting int he same room. We use secure Teams sessions with private breakout rooms where needed.
-
You don’t need a lawyer present at mediation, but you are welcome to have one attend if you wish. Many people also choose to get independent legal advice before or after mediation.
